Guidelines for Projects

  • Projects can include drawing, labeling, storytelling, or simple writing (invented spelling or adult dictation is okay).

  • Include at least three places (home, school, a landmark) and 2 location words (like near, next to).

  • Optional: use photos, audio recordings, or simple digital maps.

  • Projects can be bilingual or in any form the child can express.

How Families Can Help

  • Take a short walk and notice streets, buildings, parks, or landmarks.

  • Talk about daily routes (first, next, last).

  • Share family photos or favorite places in Gunnison.

  • Help children practice sharing their project for 1–2 minutes.

Home Extension Activities

  • Make a route chart (bath → pajamas → story).

  • Trace paths on a map to favorite places.

  • Build a street with blocks at home.

  • Collect rocks or leaves from different places.

  • Read map or place-based books with your child.
